This workshop focuses on how Housing Retrofit focused Building Information Modelling (ReBIM) can address key existing housing challenges in: environmental sustainability (energy efficiency, CO2, lifecycle cost); social sustainability (health and quality of life); and physical sustainability (earthquake / flood resilience). The predicted real benefits of BIM for building owners and occupants can be reaped at the maintenance stage, but current focus is on new design and construction instead, even in the UK. Collaboration and communication tools, common standards, protocols and methods are needed to examine and simulate what-if analysis of various housing scenarios. It will benefit stakeholders in Turkey and the UK to determine how ReBIM with visualization, simulation and collaborative working features can remedy these challenges by improving research capacity and career opportunities for the participants and establishing a Centre of Excellence for collaboration and best practice exchange.
