CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

Workshop Title: “Building Information Modelling and Collaboration for Retrofit for Resilient Housing and Sustainability: Research, Practice and Support for Social Innovation”

The University of Salford with Cardiff Metropolitan University is pleased to announce a British Council sponsored workshop, under the Researcher Links scheme offered within the Newton Fund. The workshop themed around Building Information Modeling, Retrofit for Resilient Housing and Sustainability will be held in Gaziantep and Istanbul in Turkey in coordination with Yildiz Technical University and Hasan Kalyoncu University on 07th-10th April 2016.

The workshop will focus on how Housing Retrofit focused Building Information Modelling (ReBIM) can address key existing housing challenges in: environmental sustainability (energy efficiency, CO2, lifecycle cost); social sustainability (health and quality of life); and physical sustainability (earthquake / flood resilience).

RetrofitBIM stimulates a lifecycle perspective for design, construction and operation, bringing time and cost efficiency, reducing waste, enabling sustainable design and retrofit for better quality of life. The predicted real benefits of BIM for building owners and occupants can be reaped at the maintenance stage, but current focus is on new design and construction instead, even in the UK. Collaboration and communication tools, common standards, protocols and methods are needed to examine and simulate what–if analysis of various housing scenarios.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring Early Career Researchers in the UK and Turkey together in order to establish long-lasting research collaboration between the two countries with support and contributions from the leading researchers from both countries. Please check the workshop web site and the attached workshop poster for further details.
